Every magnetic rock has a temperature — for magnetite, about 580°C — above which its domains lose all alignment and forget every field they ever held.
Heat the rock past that line and the arrows scramble. Let it cool in the present field and they lock, freezing a new chron into the stone. Click Heat, then Flip field before it cools to choose which direction gets remembered.
